Middelburg
Middelburg, formerly known as Nasareth - meaning 'root from dry land', was established on the farm Sterkfontein in 1866, and owes the large extent of the town and the townlands to a mathematical error. The area is also one of the few, and best, places in the world where fossil life has been discovered as well as San Rock Art in caves from the first known human inhabitants, the San Bushmen.
