Klaarstroom
Hidden by a bend in the rod and tucked against the mountains, most people who travel from Beaufort West to Oudtshoorn through Meiringspoort, miss the magic of this tiny town. An English church, Dutch Reformed Church hall, seven houses, police station, general store and craft outlet are dotted along it winding gravel main road.
Named for its clear water, Klaarstroom was the site of South Africa’s first wool washing plant and the home of country’s last transport rider. Photo & text courtsey of Northern Cape Tourism Authority (NCTA)
